Yuletide: Federal Contractors Promise To Co-Operate With Government Over Road Projects

Contractors handling Federal Government road projects have reassured Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola of their co-operation in the ongoing road projects across the country.

 The contractor expressed their willingness during a meeting with the minister of works, top officials of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA and Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.

  The meeting was organised to seek the cooperation of contractors in the repairs of federal roads a head of the yuletide.

 Fashola said it was the responsibility of the ministry to ensure that all the necessary things were put in place in order to facilitate smooth movement of travellers during the season.

He urged the FRSC to intensify campaigns against excessive speeding and driving by unlicensed drivers on highways.

The Minister ordered his ministry’s director of Highways Construction and Rehabilitation to list out all arterial roads needing urgent attention and asked that work should commence immediately.

The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Boboye  Oyeyemi , on his part  told the meeting about the arrangement that had been put in place by his agency to facilitate the movement of travellers during the season.

Some of the contractors at the meeting were Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, Setraco, RCC, Mother Cart Nigeria Limited, CGC Nigeria Limited, Salini Nigeria Limited and CGCG.

Federal controllers, particularly those overseeing the major roads at the meeting discussed on their plans of action for the season.

Some of the roads to be fixed are the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, Sagamu-Mowe, Abraka-Agbor, Benin-Asaba, Auchi-Benin, Calabar-Nkom,Ogoja, Calabar-Itu-Uyo, Kontagora-Minna, Abuja-Lokoja, Ogbomoso-Ilorin, Jos-Panshin and Enugu-Onitsha.
