Messi Wins Record Sixth Ballon d’Or

Barcelona and Argentina playmaker, Lionel Messi has won his sixth Ballon d’Or, 10 years after he won the first trophy acclaimed to the best male player in the world in any given year.

He beat the Liverpool pair of Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane to take the honour at the award ceremony in Paris, France.

He has now surpassed rival, Juventus and Portugal playmaker, Cristiano Ronaldo to become all-time winner of the coveted award.

Though the Argentine playmaker did not win a continental championship for club or country, he, however, led Barcelona to win the Spanish league and emerged top scorer in Spain and Europe with 36 goals. It was his sixth Golden Boot.
