The National Universities Commission, NUC has identified about 100 fake professors in the country’s university system, the commission has said.

NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Abubakar Rasheed has also charged vice-chancellors in the country to take the lead in the crusade against academic corruption observing that many ‘graduates’ were presenting themselves for National Youth Service with fake certificates.

Prof. Rasheed concerns were conveyed at the 2019 retreat for vice-chancellors.

The NUC boss was quoted in the commission’s news letter as observing that the detection of the fake professors was made after they were made to upload their documents into the commission’s data base.

“The updated version of those documents will be published by December 2019 and professors in their respective universities uploaded their CV on the website which was used in the compilation of the directory. About 100 fake professors also uploaded their details but we detected them.

“This measure helped in identifying fake professors in the system. The fight against fake professors is a collective responsibility.”

He further disclosed that the NYSC had recently complained about the genuineness of certificates presented by some prospective corps members.

Upon that he charged the vice-chancellors to lead the charge against academic corruption in the university system.
