The Edo State House of Assembly has formally informed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of the vacancies declared in 14 seats in the house.

The communication according to the House of Assembly is a notice for the commission to conduct fresh elections to fill the seats.

14 of the 24 members of the House of Assembly aligned to the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC had absented themselves from the house in their contest of the legitimacy of the inauguration last June.

Speaker Frank Okiye is reported to have written the commission of the action of the house a situation he said has put the ball firmly in the INEC’s court.

The INEC national commissioner for publicity, Mr. Frank Okoye had earlier claimed ignorance of the developments in the Edo State House of Assembly saying that no formal communication had been presented to the commission.
