The praises masked past attacks the two men directed at one another in separate books they wrote. Governor El-Rufai who has since his days with Obasanjo transformed into a self-confessed apologist of President Muhammadu Buhari. Obasanjo and Buhari have in recent times engaged in a public spat arising over the former president’s assertions of poor governance, clannishness among other weaknesses.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Ibrahim Musa quoted President Obasanjo as describing himself as “a son-of-the soil having lived in Kaduna from 1959 to 1967 and built his first house at the Makera area of the town”.

While noting the inclusiveness the former president observed in the El-Rufai administration, Obasanjo was quoted as saying that “El Rufai has recreated the Kaduna of old because his State Executive Council reflects a mini Nigeria.

“We need a character like this, a man that you know where you stand with him. Any job given to him will be well done,’’ the former president further explained.

President Obasanjo was further observed to have said that the people of Kaduna State ‘’have a good leader to work with.”

Observing the way the governor has enthroned women in governance, Obasanjo added that El-Rufai was a good student saying ‘’I made women to matter in my government. He has done the same in Kaduna. He is a very good learner’’

The governor on his part was observed to have described President Obasanjo as a mentor from whom he learnt many things in public service from.
