The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged politicians to support Federal government policy on production and consumption of local rice.

NAN’s Spokesman, Mr. Azeez Adeyemi, made the call in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday.

He noted that many politicians had yet to key into the policy to encourage the production and consumption of Nigerian rice.

“We have observed that many politicians still distribute foreign rice to their supporters and constituents during Christmas.

“By not patronising local rice dealers, they are not supporting the policy, it is not good to the economy, it may also defeat the essence of the policy,” he said.

Adeyemi said that politicians should lead the path in the implementation of the policy on local rice production and consumption.

The NAN’s image maker said that the closure of borders was a good omen to the nation’s economy.

“As students, we are also facing the temporary challenges that go with the closure, but we are ready to support the decision because it is a noble one,” he said.
