Alleged Extortion: Senator Sani To Spend New Year In EFCC Custody
Vocal civil society activist Senator Shehu Sani has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on the charge of extortion.
Sani according to sources dropped the name of the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu to help fend off investigation of a prominent motor dealer in Kaduna.
The source said revealed that Sani allegedly obtained $30,000 from the auto dealer with the claim that he could help provide protection from prosecution from the EFCC.
The source revealed that when the cover was broken that Senator Sani who represented Kaduna Central in the last election that the senator refunded some money but that $20,000 was outstanding.
Senator Sani was said to have refused entreaties from the commission to answer to the issues when it came to the knowledge of Magu prompting the EFCC to move for his arrest.
A source said that he is going to spend the New Year holiday in the custody of the EFCC.
