Benin’s Famous Urhokpota Hall Gutted By Fire
Urhokpota Hall, one of the major landmarks in Benin, Edo State with history going back to the 15th Century was partly gutted by fire on Saturday.
The Urhokpota Hall is famous for hosting major socio cultural and political events is also remarkably where the Oba of Benin is first unveiled for the public.
Some sections of the historic hall was discovered to be in flames in the midnight of Friday/Saturday rousing members of the nearby Ogbe Community into action.
Communal efforts it was learnt helped to put the fire out following the inability of the government Fire Service to respond to distress calls.
The fire in the popular hall follows the fire at Ekiosa market about two weeks ago.
