Ahead of the 2020 governorship election in Edo State, the faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), loyal to Godwin Obaseki has set machinery in motion to strengthen its membership base ahead of the primaries.

The 39-member mobilization committee is headed by a grassroots mobiliser and former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mathew Iduoriyekemwen.

One of the undeclared goals of the committee is to pluck members from the other faction of the party loyal to the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Inaugurating the committee, Ojezua urged the committee to embark on serious membership drive by working with the party leadership at the state, local government and ward levels.

Ojezua at the ceremony also declared that entry into the party by defectors from other parties would be on individual basis and not on the basis of groups.

He further urged the committee to screen and make necessary recommendations that will be for the good of the party.

He listed out the term references of the committee to include embark on a serious membership drive, identify and interact with notable persons across the state who has shown genuine interest to join the party.

The chairman also implored the Committee to develop a program of action to receive members at all levels of engagements from the ward to the state level and do all that’s necessary to achieve the objectives of which the committee was set up.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the Committee, promised to ensure that people of good character that will lead the party to the next level are brought to the party.

He added that the Committee was ready to accept as large as the population of the state if such persons wish to join the APC.
