The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has described the deployment of 30,000 soldiers to fight insurgency in North-east as grossly inadequate.

Ndume stressed that the renewed insurgency being experienced in the North-East geopolitical zone will continue unless the problem of poor funding of the military is addressed.

He urged the Federal Government to address the problem of poor funding which has made the fight against insurgency difficult for the military to combat,

Ndume said, “The challenge that the military have now is lack of resources and inadequate personnel.  As long as the resources are not deployed in terms of what they would need,  we would continue to have this (insurgency) challenge.

“In an operation like this, we have only 30, 000 soldiers on ground which is grossly inadequate.  They (Federal Government) have to do something urgently about that.”

He stated that residents of three local governments sacked by Boko Haram members were yet to return to their homes and urged security agencies to do more in order to ensure safety of lives in the area.

According to Ndume, the decision of the military to take over the affected council areas was to prevent the return of Boko Haram members to the areas.

Ndume who lamented the kidnap of Christian Association, CAN, Michika Local Government of Adamawa State, Rev. Lawan Andimi, urged security agents in the area to do something to ensure his release.
