Picture Of Buhari And El-Zakzaky Means Nothing – Presidency
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The presidency has dismissed claims that President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai once appealed and bowed to the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky to seek his political support.
This was sequel to the pictures published by an online medium, Sahara Reporters, with the caption: “FLASHBACK: When They Needed Votes, Nigeria’s President @MBuhari And Governor Nasir @elrufai Visited And Bowed To Ibrahim El Zakzaky And Then Turned Their Guns On Him And His Followers.”
Reacting to the development, Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant on New Media to the president stated that there was no time Buhari visited El-Zakzaky to seek for votes within the periods of 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019, noting that the pictures posted by Sahara Reporters were taken during public event.
He tweeted that: “To set the record straight; President Muhammadu Buhari has never, in all his 5-time campaigns for the Presidency (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019), visited Ibrahim Zakzaky to seek his and followers votes, the picture was at a public event in 2009.
“Gov El-Rufai’s visit was a condolence visit in 2014.”
Earlier, Saharareporters had published pictures of El-Zakzaky in separate poses with Buhari and El-Rufai.
