Unusual Silence In Imo As Uzodinma Steps In
There was unusual quiet in Owerri the Imo state capital on Wednesday following the sack of Emeka Ihedioha as governor of the state by the Supreme court on Tuesday.
Some of the major streets within the state capital looked deserted while the outcome of the judgment dominated discussions among the residents.
The expression of disappointment and unhappiness over the judgment indicated the support and wide acceptance Ihedioha enjoyed from the people before his sack as governor.
This may not be unconnected with the untold hardship the people were subjected to in the last 8years led by the APC government under Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
A civil servant from Owerri local government who spoke on ground of anonymity lamented that he could not go to work on Wednesday due to the judgment which he termed as “bad news’.
“It was a noonday robbery. Ihedioha started very well and I believed that he was the leader God wanted to bless Imo with but they robbed him of the mandate we gave to him. We voted massively for Ihedioha, so the judgment was surprising to many of us.
“Emeka Ihedioha would have been the governor Imo state would have had after Sam Mbakwe, that was the way I saw him until they came with their federal might to rob Imo.
And when you look at it , Achike Udenwa is from Orlu and he didn’t perform.
“Ikedi Ohakim started well, but because of the same Mbaka prophecy he failed to win second term. Rochas is also from Orlu zone and it is on record that he is the worst governor Imo ever had.
“Our fear is that Uzodinma is from same Orlu zone and may not perform. We believe that Emeka Ihedioha would have performed to expectations. We are not happy, that is the truth”
