The newly inaugurated Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has raised alarm over what he described as plot by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

Besides, Uzodinma, has also accused the PDP of organizing nationwide demonstrations with the intent of bringing down the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Uzodinma in a statement, signed by his Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser, Oguike Nwachukwu observed that Imo State House of Assembly members have been secretly incited to impeach him, saying that they are formulating falsehoods to gag up against him.

“We know the game plan of the PDP because we are aware that they have been secretly inciting Imo State House of Assembly members to think of how to impeach the governor. So they are trying to rake up anything they can, even falsehood, to incite the public.”

The focus of the alleged impeachment threat flows from accusation that the governor was indicted by the now disbanded Okoi Obono-Obla panel which at one time threatened to arrest Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Commenting on the issue, the governor insisted that the allegation was sheer mischief and malice borne out of frustration because “they know very well that the assets declaration allegation was fallaciously contrived by the disgraced former Chairman of the Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Properties, Mr. Okoi Obon-Obia which has been thrown out by the court.”

Also speaking at a solidarity rally in Owerri on Monday, Governor Uzodinma accused the PDP of holding solidarity rally across the country with the intent of distabilising the Buhari administration.

“If not why are they holding rallies in Cross River, Katsina, Abuja if not to overthrow Buhari,” the governor said.
