Ortom’s Ways

Benue

I am a Christian. I also have faith. Strong faith at that. But the faith exercised by Gov Samuel Ortom is unusual.

In 2014 when he lost the PDP gubernatorial primary election, he was busy inviting people to his swearing-in on May 29, 2015. That was even before he moved over to APC and secured the ticket. He continued in that spirit throughout the campaign.

Fast forward to 2020.

Governorship elections held and won on March 9, 2019 by Ortom. Hon Jime, the APC candidate not satisfied, drags Ortom to the governorship elections tribunal and moved to the Court of Appeal. Ortom won.

When the case moved to the Supreme Court, APC morale got boosted with the verdict on Imo State. Anxiety loomed large in the state. Both sides fine-tuned their winning ways, aligning with the Imo verdict.

The social media is agog with analysis by emergency legal heads on who takes home the trophy. New songs are crafted by both APC and PDP political folk singers. Ortom remains undaunted.

On the day of judgment, tension rises higher. But not with Gov Ortom. His faith in God rather rises higher against the raging psychological warfare.

Rather than fret, Ortom, like King David found more solace in staying at the feet of the Master. As the lawyers exchanged fireworks on January 21, 2020 at the Supreme Court, Ortom was busy lifting up his hands in worship as he joined other believers at the Peace House in Gboko.

And that’s the staying power of this man underrated by many. His reverence of God in all he does. And truly, God derives pleasure in our worship.

By the time you will be reading this, judgment may have been delivered in the Jime vs Ortom Benue governorship tussle. And going by his conviction, the Apex Court may just be affirming Ortom’s March 9, 2019 victory.

Like King David, Ortom may not be your kind of man but his faith in God has kept him strong in the face of political adversities. And this has given him victories where some thread with caution.

Such is the character of Gov Ortom which sustains him in his life battles.

Congratulations HE Gov Samuel Ortom on your anticipated affirmation by the Supreme Court as the duly elected governor of Benue State by the people.
