OAU VC Vows To Make Sexual Harassment Report Public
The vice-chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede has vowed not to sweep the latest allegation of sexual harassment made against a lecturer in the university under the carpet.
Speaking when he received the report of the investigative panel into the allegation of sexual harassment leveled by Miss Motunrayo Afolayan against her lecturer Olabisi Olaleye, the vice-chancellor also charged students not to be afraid to speak up when harassed.
Miss Afolayan had accused Olaleye, a lecturer in the Department of International Relations of failing her in the course he taught for failing to submit to his sexual advances.
A statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju quoted the vice-chancellor, Professor Ogunbodede of vowing to make the report of the investigations public when he received the report.
The probe panel was headed by the Provost of the Postgraduate College of the University, Professor Yetunde Ajibade.
While thanking the panel members for their effort, the vice-chancellor said:
“While I applaud your tireless sacrifice as members of the Panel for a job well done, I assure you that the university is commitment to zero tolerance for any form of sexual and emotional harassment”.
“The administration will now present the findings of the Panel to the Academic and Promotion Committee of the University for deliberations who, in turn, will present the outcome to the University Governing Council for final decision”.
“And concerning the issue at hand, we are unequivocally committed to making the final decision on it public”, the vice-chancellor vowed.
