Army: We Don’t Have Problem With Borno Government
The Nigeria Army on Friday said it had maintained a good working relationship and mutual understanding with Borno State Government.
The Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, , made the clarification at a press conference, at the Military Control and Command Centre, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Adeniyi dismissed as misleading, reports indicating that the relation between the army and the state government was fraught with misunderstanding.
He Said, “I want to clear the insinuations that the military is not in a good working relationship with Borno Government.
“It is not true; it is a silly lie and figments of imaginations by mischief makers.
“The military and Borno Government are in very good relationship and we have been working together.
“We also have a mutual working relationship with Yobe and Adamawa Governments because you cannot win the insurgency warfare unless you have the civil society with you,.” .
Adeniyi said that the military was working in collaboration with the state governments to end insurgency and restore peace to the north-east.
He noted that the military in concert with the Borno Government had re-opened Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu Road to commuters while maintaining steady flow of traffic on the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road.
The commander added that the military had also deployed personnel and logistics to major roads to enhance safety of motorists and other road users in the state.
According to him, the troops had successfully repelled series of attacks coordinated by the insurgents at Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno and other parts of the state.
“We have been giving the insurgents tough time in the past seven days; they lost men and equipment.
“They came to Damasak in 14 gun trucks some days ago thinking that they can dismantle our location, they died in droves.
“They came again yesterday; the troops and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) gave them a resounding blow, their carcasses are still there.
“There is no where the insurgents came against us to dislodge troops and played something tangible; they are always defeated and we will continue to defeat them.
“The only thing that Boko Haram insurgents can do is to go to farmlands and steal crops, try to kidnap unarmed men or blow human borne bomb, but even that will soon come to an end,” he added.
