Decision To Ban Okada, Not Well Taken – Gbadamosi
The 2019 governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party, (ADP) in Lagos State, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has described the decision to ban Okada and Keke riders from operating in some local government areas as ill though.
Gbadamosi on his verified Twitter handle, wrote, “The crowd at bus stops and the sad images of thousands of Lagos commuters trekking forlornly to their destinations are heart-breaking testimonials to the poor quality of thought that went into this decision.
“I really don’t know where the APC got this strange idea that commercial motorcycles and tricycles have no place in a “mega-city”.
“As a matter of fact, Guangzhou city, in China, a metropolis roughly the size of Lagos City, though much better developed, has a large population of well-regulated commercial motorcyclists. So do Manila, Jakarta and Bangkok.”
Though Gbadamosi agreed that some Okada riders has posed a lot of threat to lives of residents, the suffering of commuters can be alleviated by reviewing the ban.
He expressed disappointment on the poor condition of roads in the state, urging the incumbent to speed up projects before the rainy season to forestall another hardship on residents.
According to Gbadamosi, the state stands the risk of experiencing more crimes if government go ahead with the ban.
