Coronavirus: 2,257 Tourists Stranded As Five Countries Turn Away Luxury Liner

2,257 tourists aboard a luxury liner, the Westerdam were on Wednesday increasingly becoming helpless after a fifth country turned their ship from berthing on fear of the coronavirus.

Thailand turned the liner from berthing after being refused berthing in Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and Guam.

The luxury liner owned by the American firm Holland America Line started the cruise on February 1 with whistle stops but because of fears that some passengers in the ship may have had contact with the coronavirus, countries have refused to allow the ship to berth.

Thailand had on Monday given some hope to agitated passengers, but as Tuesday dawned the Asian country turned the luxury liner away.

Thailand’s Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in a Facebook post on Tuesday said that he has given directives that the passengers should not be allowed to disembark.
