Adulterated Kerosene Vendor Nabbed After Product Exploded On Two Women

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a kerosene vendor for selling suspected adulterated kerosene that led to explosions in which two persons sustained vary degrees of injuries.

Two women – Roseline Onwuka of Ozala village Isuofia and Ebere Ibejiekwe of Isiaku village Isuofi in Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government were reportedly affected by the explosions while using the allegedly adulterated kerosene in their stove and lantern.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, in a statement, disclosed that the kerosene vendor has been nabbed.

He also disclosed that the victims are currently received treatment in an undisclosed hospital, adding that samples of the kerosene have been collected for investigation.

Haruna said, “On the 19/2/2020 at about 5:45 pm, there was a report at Igboukwu Division that between 12th and 13th February 2020, one Roseline Onwuka ‘f’ of Ozala village Isuofia and Ebere Ibejiekwe ‘f’ of Isiaku village Isuofia bought kerosene suspected to be adulterated from one Chidiebere Umeobi, a Kerosene seller at Nkwor Igboukwu Market.

“They took the kerosene to their various houses, it caused explosion when they used it in their lantern and stove respectively. As a result, both Mrs Roseline Onwuka and Ebere Ibejiekwe sustained varying degrees of burns all over their body while parts of their houses was also gutted by fire which emanated from the explosion.

“The suspect has been arrested while samples of the kerosene was collected and taken to DPR for analysis. The case us under investigation.”
