After becoming the first Nigerian to sign for Manchester United during the January transfer window, Odion Ighalo attained another landmark by becoming the first Nigerian international to score for Manchester United.

The AFCON 2019 top goal scorer opened his Manchester United account against Club Brugge in the Europa League. A nice cut back from Juan Mata found Ighalo in the box and the Nigerian slotted the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer handed the former Watford talisman his first start since his loan move from Shanghai Shenhua and he rewarded the manager’s faith in him with a goal.

He had been in anticipation for his first goal for his new club and it came in his fourth appearance against the Belgians. Prior to his opening goal, he had come close to scoring in two of his previous matches against Chelsea and Watford.

Odion Ighalo grew up supporting Manchester United. It was his dream to play for Manchester United.

He also became the first-ever African to score for the club in all competitions since Eric Bailly in August 2017 and dedicated the goal to his sister who recently passed away. It was an incredible moment for him.

Nigerians have continued to celebrate Ighalo’s feat. Among them is the thespian, Yul Edochie who tweeted thus:
