The gloves are off in Kwara State as proxies of Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman have entered the fray to annihilate one another.

The development has led to a sharp division in the state executive committee of the party with the chairman and the deputy chairman of the party, Alhaji Bashir Bolarinwa and Alhaji Abdullahi Samari respectively siding the minister of information and the governor.

In the latest development at the weekend agents of the governor and the minister launched at one another trading allegations of misappropriation of donations received ahead of the political insurgency that uprooted Senator Bukola Saraki’s hegemony over the state.

The state chairman Bolarinwa has been a steadfast loyalist of Lai Mohammed and past efforts to entice him into the governor’s faction had failed.

At the weekend, the deputy chairman of the party, Samari who is aligned to the governor at a press conference in Ilorin, hit at Bolarinwa who he accused of failing to give accounts of donations received ahead of the General Election.

While accusing the chairman of highhandedness, he accused Lai Mohammed of diverting attention from what he claimed were the real issues affecting the party in the state.

“Rather than address the sundry issues that bother on the lack of accountability, transparency, equity, fairness of the provisions of the party’s Constitution and our demand for same, a cabal within the party executive led by the Hon. Minister for information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and Hon Bolarinwa are deliberately diverting attention from the real issues and instead blaming some imaginary forces for the rising opposition against their autocratic leadership.”

The assertions of the faction was immediately rebutted by a group aligned to the minister, Kwara APC Integrity Vanguard (KAIV) which accused the governor’s group of chasing shadows.

KAIV in a statement signed by its national coordinator and publicity

secretary, Abdullahi Yinka Onimasa and Kayode Aliyu Bamidele respectively accused the governor’s group of being ingrates.

The group accused the governor’s faction of “targetting our state chairman, Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa, the minister.for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and other notable leaders of our party who have invested their times, energies and resources, but have today become targets of their daily verbal missiles. This is a clear case of an ingrate king who go for the jugular of those who made him.

“First, we want everyone to know that this is not the first time these desperate stomach infrastructure and appointment seekers who now described themselves as aggrieved persons will be throwing illogical allegations drawn from their speculations against the party chairman with sinister motives to heat up party politics, stir up the chairman’s emotions so as to give their power obsessed sponsor avenue to dismantle the validly constituted party structures and replace with their co-desperate stomach infrastructure, appointment seeking parasites.

“Bashir Bolarinwa, an experienced party man and an advocate of party disciplines and supremacy understands all their evil plots and will never be distracted by sponsored attacks of few frustrated elements acting scripts of their sponsor within the party”.
