No fewer than 18 out of 2098 corps members who served in Ebonyi State would repeat the mandatory one-year national scheme for absenteeism and evasion of service for three months concurrently.

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Coordinator in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ann Ibe made this disclosure, on Thursday,  during the passing-out-parade of 2019 batch A corps members, at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township Stadium, Abakaliki.

Mrs Ibe stated that the 18 corps members were found to have flouted the NYSC bye-laws of 1993, hence the punishment.

“A total of 18 corps members will have to receive various levels of punishment in line with the NYSC bye-laws 1993 for various offences committed.

“Most of them were absent from duty without permission, some even absconded, that is left their place of primary assignment for three months. It means they are going to repeat service.

“Those that were away for one month, without permission for one thing or another, without enough reasons will repeat service by two times the number of days they were away,” she said.

She also disclosed that four corps members received state awards for contributing positively to their host communities, by engaging in various community development services for the benefits of their host communities.

The State awardees include Makanjuola Victoria Temitope, Ngwueche Wisdom Chukwuma, Okeke Nkemakonam Chiamaka and Nwosu Adaobi Favour.

The State Coordinator also urged the passing out corps members to use the knowledge gained during the course of the national service to facilitate peace, unity and integration of the country.
