NIMASA Job: Amaechi Speaks On Dakuku As Fani-Kayode, Nigerians Roar On Twitter
The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has asked Nigerians to wait till next Tuesday to know the fate of his political protégée, Dr. Dakuku Peterside as the director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
His assertion nonetheless the minister and Dakuku were the object of much controversy on twitter as Nigerians took varying positions on the microblogging platform to ventilate on the issue.
Speaking on AIT Kakaki programme, Amaechi said that he was not aware that Dakuku had been removed from office as he said that his term was not due to expire until next Tuesday, March 10.
“I don’t think that those speculations are right. I just think they are mere speculations and we should wait until Tuesday next week when his tenure will officially expire. The President has the right to appoint whoever he wants to appoint and if he wants to extend his tenure, he will extend his tenure.”
His assertion was upon the claim that an executive director in the agency in the person of Bashir Jimoh who is father-in-law to one of the president’s close personal assistants had been appointed as a replacement.
“His tenure expires on the 10th of this month. When it expires, you can then approach the President to either reappoint him or replace him. The President has the appointing authority. All the minister has by law is the recommendation authority.”
His assurance nonetheless, Nigerians ventilated contrasting views on the development on twitter.
