Governors Win Buhari Over In Battle Against Oshiomhole, NEC Holds March 17

President Muhammadu Buhari may have caved in to pressures from All Progressives Congress, APC governors for the embattled national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to be removed from office.

Indicative of that was the notice of a National Executive Committee, NEC meeting that has now been slated for March 17, 2020. It is expected that the NEC which is the only body that can sanction the removal of the national chairman would act in that direction.

The NEC is expected to take cognizance of the conflicting judgments issued by an Abuja High Court and that taken by a Federal High Court in Kano.

With Oshiomhole yet to vacate the restriction placed by the Abuja High Court at a superior court, the NEC is expected to hold him in abeyance and appoint an acting National Chairman.

The decision to summon the NEC with the president in attendance party sources revealed may be indicative of the failure of the embattled chairman to win the president over to his side in the conflict.

A notice of the NEC meeting issued a statement saying:

“In line with Article 25 (B) (II) of the Constitution of our great Party, members of the APC National Executive Committee are invited to attend an emergency meeting which is scheduled to hold on Tuesday March 17, 2020 at 3:00 pm Prompt” Victor Giadom, the acting National Secretary said in a statement.

Remarkably, the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu had earlier in the week apparently on the orders of Oshiomhole issued a statement appointing Arc. Waziri Bulama as acting national secretary.

“The reality is that our party APC is faced with a big problem whereby none of our organs are meeting as provided by the constitution. In fact, we are even not sure who our members are. There is, therefore, the urgent need to resume the process of party building with confirmation of our members as well as recruiting new members,” Lukman said in a statement.

“We need to invoke provisions of Article 17 (vi) which provides that in the event of a vacancy, “the relevant Party organ shall appoint another person to act in his place pending ratification by the National Convention or Congress.”

However, some arty insiders on Saturday morning, still affirmed that Oshiomhole was not gone and that he could still bounce back at the NEC meeting.

“You remember that Oyegun (Oshiomhole’s predecessor, John Odigie Oyegun) also faced a near similar situation and when the NEC held, they passed a vote of confidence on him,” one party source told GreenWhiteGreen.
