Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has opened up on why he went the extent of reaching the deposed emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II saying the deposed monarch has been part of his growing up.

Affirming that he cannot deny him at his time of need, the Kaduna State governor also disclosed that the court order obtained by Sanusi meant that he can go anywhere including Kano.

Speaking in Awe, Nasarawa State just before the pair left the town for Abuja, El-Rufai said Sanusi’s ultimate destination could be Lagos where his family has since relocated.

On why he paid the price to see Sanusi, he said that Sanusi had been with him from his teenage years and that he could not afford to deny him at his time of need.

On the liberty the former emir now has, he said:

“As you know the federal high court in Abuja today declared his detention illegal and unconstitutional and his banishment also in violation of the constitution, so he is free,” el-Rufai said.

“He can live anywhere he wants including Kano city, if he wants. But we are on our way to Abuja. It is quite likely that the emir proceeds to Lagos which was his preferred destination from day one.

“From the day he was informed of his deposition, it was his wish to go to Lagos because part of his family is now in Lagos. And by the grace of God we’re on our way to Lagos.”
