Adeboye’s Coronavirus Immunity Comments Stir Social Media Storm
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
Mixed reactions have continued to trail the statements made by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of Redeem Christian Church Of God in a Coronavirus Virus immunity video.
Pastor Adeboye, in a video posted on RCCG social media platforms, prayed against the spread of Coronavirus, while saying “this is the time for God to show you clearly that there is difference between those who serve him wholeheartedly and those who do not.
I want to assure you that so far you are in the secret place of the Most High, no virus can come near your dwelling. Remember being able to abide under his shadow involves you living a life of cleanliness, the basic things like washing your hands, keeping your environment clean, close to Godliness and adhering to basic hygiene measures. God bless you,” the revered cleric.
In the usual manner, the revered cleric came under attack by Twitter users, who argued that personal hygiene is the prevention of Coronavirus, not blood of Jesus Christ.

In swift reaction, some sections of Twitter Users supported the statements of Pastor Adeboye, noting that what the cleric said is in the Bible and that he should be respected for his old age.
Reacting to this a Nollywood actor, Williams Uchemba came in defense of Adeboye, urging Nigerian youth to always respect elders and stop hurling insults at them, both offline and online.
Uchemba cited 1 Timothy 5:13, Hebrews 13:17 and Ephesians 6:1 as scriptural references that admonished youth to respect elders, while adding that God’s wrath will befell youth that disregard elders like Adeboye.
