Ex-PPMC MD Identified As First Covid-19 Casualty

The erstwhile managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC, Engr. Suleiman Achimugu has been identified as the first fatality from the COVID-19 disease.

The deceased according to reports was buried on Sunday. A report has it that the family members are now in self isolation.

The family revealed in a statement on Monday that he died on Sunday following his return from the United Kingdom few days ago. He was reported to have informed the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control of his manifestation of COVID-19 symptoms and remained in isolation until his death.

The statement from the family read thus:

“Our family is deeply saddened to inform you of the sudden death of our beloved Father, Uncle, Brother and friend. Engr. Suleiman Achimugu (former Md of PPMC).

“He died of COVID 19 on 22/03/2020 some days after he arrived Nigeria from the UK. He was in self-isolation upon his return from the UK and personally called NCDC after experiencing some discomfort that are related to COVID 19 symptoms.”

He served as PPMC managing director during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration and he was 67 at the time of death.
