Three Chelsea legends Dieder Drogba, Samuel Eto and Demba Ba are among prominent Africans who teamed with Chief Femi Fani-Kayode to rebuke comments by two French doctors on using Africans to test for potential COVID-19 vaccines.

The duo of Jean-Paul Mira and Camille Locht in a television chat noted that a “repurposed” tuberculosis vaccine should be tested on Africans for a potential cure of COVID-19.

Many have also viewed the remark as racist and generated the hashtag #AfricanAreNotLabRats on twitter to vent their anger.

Ex-Ivorian and Chelsea legend, Didder Drogba reacting said:

“Let us save ourselves from this crazy virus that is plummeting the world economy and ravaging populations health worldwide.

“Do not take African people as human guinnea pigs! It’s absolutely disgusting,” he tweeted.

Ex-Cameroonian and former Barcelona/Inter Milan player, Samuel Eto and Ex-Senegalese and former Chelsea player Demba Ba have both taken to their social media accounts to reject the idea, while tagging it as racist.

Former Minster of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has also taken to his Twitter handle to reject the idea, while noting that the intention is to kill many Africans with the vaccines.

However, Mira, one of the French doctors who made the comment, has apologized to the continent, noting the idea was clumsily expressed.
