By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The Police in Lagos have arrested popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and are searching for her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello (JJC Skillz) and the musician Naira Marley following their infringement of the lockdown regulations in the state.
Police sources told GreenWhiteGreen that the actress was as at Sunday night cooling her heels at Panti Station, Yaba following the loud birthday party for her husband which the authorities say violated the law restricting social gathering.
Ms. Akindele had organized a birthday bash for her husband on Saturday against the order restricting gatherings to not more than 20. The party was particularly condemned by her followers and Nigerians on social media upon her leading role as a goodwill ambassador for the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
Upon the harsh criticisms on social media, Ms. Akindele on Sunday afternoon made profuse apologies for her infraction even as she explained that participants at the party had been sequestered before the commencement of the lockdown.
The police, have, however, moved ahead of her apology and on Sunday evening effected her arrest. Her husband has also been requested to present himself and likewise Naira Marley.
Police spokesman, DSP Elkana Bala in a statement on the issue said:
“Attention of the Lagos State Police Command was drawn to a viral video showing a large number of persons mainly in the entertainment industry in an estate, along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki axis, Lagos, celebrating a birthday party organised by Funke Akindele- Bello and her husband.
“Police detectives from the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba were promptly drafted to the location. Consequently, Funke Akindele was arrested.
“Investigation is ongoing, Efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among who are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz. They are in their best interests urged to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday April 6, 2020 or risk being declared wanted.”
