Liz Benson @ 54: Nollywood Queen Living On Grace

Liz Benson left the stage almost 15 years ago, but her defining and delectable drama skills left lasting impressions that remain evergreen among Nigeria’s move aficionados.

Ms. Benson started her acting career at the young age of five, but it was not until her defining role in the NTA drama series, Fortunes that ran in the early nineties that she came into public renown.

That renown was to turn into stardom with her role in Glamour Girls (1994), one of the films that propped up the then fledgling Nollywood Industry.

With more films like Political Control, Witches (1998), Diamond Ring (1998), World Apart (2004) her star power became uncontestable.

Her radiant beauty cast against her often wicked roles in films was a life lesson that not all that shines is gold for film enthusiasts.

She is best known as an actress whose prowess helped cultivate the novel industry at the beginning of the nineties and due to her untainted life has been dubbed as the queen and first lady of Nollywood.

That saintly image was helped by her quiet exit from the industry following her conversion to Christianity. She indeed left the stage when the ovation was loudest leaving her as a memorable icon of the industry.

Ms. Benson who lost her first husband when she was in her mid-twenties, eventually remarried when she was taken to the altar by Bishop Great Ameye of Freedom Family Assembly in 2009 at the Rainbow Christian Assembly in Warri, Delta State.

She is deeply involved in Christian ministry as an evangelist and a faithful companion to her pastor husband.

Born on April 5, 1966, Ms. Liz Benson can arguably be lauded as the queen and first lady of Nollywood with an untainted image that reflecting grace, grandeur, and gratitude.
