AY Under Fire For Funke Akindele Comment
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
Some Twitter users have taken to the microblogging platform to lambast popularly Nigerian comedian, Ayo Makun aka AY over his comment for social media to focus on political leaders in the same way that it called out Funke Akindele.
Twitter users, on Sunday, called out Funke Akindele and her husband for organizing a house party, in disregard for the social distancing directives of the Lagos State Government to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.
The outrage, on Twitter, obviously pressured the Lagos State Government to initiate a legal action against Funke Akindele and her husband, which led to their conviction and fine sanction.
Immediately after she was convicted, AY took to his Twitter handle to ask Twitter users to also call out ‘oppressors in government’ just like they did to the actress and her husband.
“YES! NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW. BUT I WISH THOSE OF YOU WHO CALLED OUT @funkeakindele CAN DO SAME WITH YOUR COUNTLESS OPPRESSORS IN GOVERNMENT… EVEN WHEN THE SKY IS FILLED WITH CLOUDS THE SUN STILL SHINES ABOVE. FUNKE WILL RISE AGAIN.#LESSONSLEARNT,” AY tweeted.
AY comment angered many Twitter users, who lambasted him for not using his large audience to criticize bad leaders but rather selling expensive tickets for shows.
“My question is, why did bros ay have to type his tweet in capital letters??? Was it to make his voice louder???” @Sheddi_younG tweeted.
“Bros AY enriched himself by selling table for 5 to our oppressors through the years. HYPOCRITE!!!,” @Gagznation tweeted.
“Bros AY. Acting like u do not know pple exert so much energy to call out oppressors in govt is hypocritical,2day they are oppressors becos dey took a stand against one of ur own. 2marow when they sit in ur show u praise them.

“Bros AY is this you or someone else… Na you Coward pass bro No CAP!. Oppressors, You can’t speak against, Even your fellow colleagues, you can’t speak against… But you want to speak against the General Public,” @Labi_knows_best tweeted.
“Bros AY, does this mean we should only call out people in government? And why the caps though?” @omoakinthefresh tweeted.
