By Ayodele Oluwafemi
Nigerians have taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter, to express skepticism on the fire incident at the Accountant General of the Federation office on Wednesday.
The office of the Accountant General of the Federation, which is also known as the treasury house, was razed by fire, on Wednesday.
Sequel to the development, Nigerians have been demanding for explanation on how the Federal Government is distributing the conditional cash transfer to poor people in the society.
In the same vein, the National Assembly has expressed dissatisfaction over the physical payment of the funds to the poor people in the society.
While the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is calling for a probe of the fuel subsidy from 2015 till date.
Some Nigerians viewed it as a cover up of the corrupt deals of the Federal Government, while noting that the incident seems suspicious.
A section of Twitter users feared that the FG would come up with stories that it had lost important documents regarding the Covid-19 donations and other financial issues.
Former Minster of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode tweeted, “The Accountant General’s office has been burnt? Sounds very suspicious to me. Is someone trying to cover up something? Time will tell.”
Hip hop star, Adeleke David aka Davido tweeted that “Make dem return our money o … which one be say office don burn ….”
Also reacting, Reno Omokri tweeted, “There is a #CoronaVirus lockdown in Abuja and the Accountant General’s office burnt down? This is an office that didn’t burn when it was a beehive of activities, only to burn when it became a ghost town? What are the odds? An accident? Very fishy.”
