Umahi Bans Okada For Smuggling People Into Ebonyi
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has banned the use of motorcycles in the state over the flagrant disregard of the State COVID-19 Laws
Umahi made this known on Saturday.
The governor noted that misguided elements were hiring ‘Okada’ to enter the state through track roads, contravening the State Covid-19 Law.
Recall that the Ebonyi State Government had closed its borders, disallowing movement of people into and out of the state. The only exceptions were those bringing in food and medical equipment to the state.
Meanwhile, the ban of motorcycle was contained in a statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Francis Nwaze.
The statement reads, “The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE has noted with dismay how misguided elements hire motorcyclists popularly called Okada to enter Ebonyi State through track roads which contravenes the COVID-19 Law 2020 and as a result, has directed immediate ban of the use of Motorcycles (Okada) in Ebonyi State.
“This directive is without exception and the ban is an all-time ban across the state.
“It’s imperative to note that our dear Governor is working tirelessly to ensure that this deadly Coronavirus does not enter our dear State and will not relent in his efforts to ensure that the COVID-19 Pandemic does not enter Ebonyi.”
The state has not recorded any case of COVID-19 as at the time of filing this report.
