Amidst the Coronavirus lockdown in Ogun State, residents of the state have cried out over the increasing wave of armed robbery activities in some parts of the state.

GreenWhiteGreen gathered that the lockdown order of President Muhammadu Buhari has not deterred armed robbers from tormenting residents of the state, especially those staying in Adiyan, Oke-Aro, Ope-Ilu, Itoki, Abule, Ogba-Ayo, Abule, Sango areas of the state.

Many of the residents of the aforementioned areas have resorted to watching the night and forming vigilante groups to keep their streets safe from robbers, having been repeatedly let down by the Nigeria Police Force.

Some of the residents of the state took to the microblogging platform, Twitter, under the hashtag #OgunUnrest, to narrate their ordeal in the hands of the armed robbers.

Reacting to the development, activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls’ Movement, Aisha Yesufu argued that she had feared that the lockdown will make hungry people become armed robbers who will come to hurt citizens of the state.

Aisha urged Federal and State Governments to ensure that monies and food get to the people to avoid a situation where hungry will lead people to armed robbery.

@AishaYesufu tweeted: “Came online to see #OgunUnrest trending. This has been some of the fears we expressed might happen during lockdown & asked security agents do the needful.

This is just beginning and would spread across the country if nothing is done by government. Anarchy is looming in our Nation.”

@William_Ukpe tweeted: “Promise the Poor Diversification.Ignore Poverty & treat inclusive wealth like a burden

Then you lock them up for 2 weeks, give them nothing to eat Why won’t you get an #OgunUnrest & ajah situation? You think they will attack the rich? They will start with the Middle class.”

@ayabachi tweeted: “It used to sound like a joke hearing stories about how the police would say there’s no fuel in the car when you call them for emergencies involving lives. My cousin in Ogun state narrated the exact thing. The police only showed up 2 hours later! #OgunUnrest.”

@iSlimfit tweeted: “I just received series of armed robbery reports in several parts of Ogun state. At a time like this, security of lives & properties should be the least of the problem. I heard some arrests were made yesterday but @PoliceNG need to beef up security. @dabiodunMFR #OgunUnrest.”

@heisTactic tweeted: “Please if you’re in Agbado, Sango, Ijoko and co Make sure you get some sleep during the day because it looks like we would be doing vigil every night now.

Atleast you won’t suffer from sleep deprivation in addition to the hunger and anxiety that is going around .

#OgunUnrest.”
