Benue Index Case Tested Positive – Health Minister
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire and the Benue State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sunday Ongbabo have separately responded to the controversy surrounding the COVID-19 index case in Benue State, Mrs. Susan Okpe.
GreenWhiteGreen reported that United Kingdom-based Okpe had in two separate videos alleged that she was not COVID-19 positive alleging that she was being held against her will in Abuja by the authorities.
Mrs. Okpe who claimed she was taken against her will to Abuja for treatment affirmed that after 16 days that her results were muddled up and that she was not being well taken care of.
But responding to her actions the minister of health, Dr. Ehanire said:
Ehanire noted that Okpe’s Covid-19 experience was a classical case in which a positive patient shows no symptoms.
“I heard she was disputing the result because she felt very well and felt she was not shown the actual result and the third complaint that she was not comfortable where she was being treated, so we now arranged for a transfer to another more comfortable facility and requested the second test and the test also came out positive but in the main time this person was feeling well.
“This is a classical case of what we see in the Covid-19, we will disclose it today, people feel very well but they are usually positive, thinking they are not sick why are you detaining them? Why are you keeping them in isolation?,” he said.
“The bottom line is that this person is positive, but disputes the result because she said she is well and was shown the result and she said it is fake,” the Minister said.
