Nigerians In Panic Over Rising COVID-19 Cases

Nigerians have taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter, to react to the Lagos State, Sunday report of COVID-19 cases as announced by Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC.

NCDC daily update for Sunday, 19th April 2020 showed that a record number of 86 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country bringing the total tally of confirmed cases to 627.

70 of the 86 new cases in the country were discovered in Lagos.

The update immediately raised apprehension in the social media as many feared that it could lead to the extension of the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Ogun States.

@tolutezzzy tweeted: “NCDC just drop the new cases and we have 70 in Lagos only, guys forget the 3-month assumption,  we will be using 1 year at home… this is becoming serious every day.”

@moti_dqueen tweeted: “Lagos isn’t on lockdown, people are still moving freely. Public vehicles are very much commuting people from one end to the other, talk more of private. At least, my neighbor’s friends came here to drink with him today, this 70 in Lagos is just rehearsals. Kasa Kasa shi n bo??.”

@Al_ameen_Yabo tweeted: “NCDC reported new 70 in lagos, Corona virus is getting out of hand, the govt need to do something before that virus hit the north, bcos “if corona enter north that is the end”?, they don’t have a good personal hygiene and they don’t know how to practice social distance.”

@Shawnifee tweeted: “It’s either NCDC did midnight sub or they were scared to break the bad news to us that’s why they posted very late.Bruh! 86 new cases 70 in Lagos. Stay at home, but some people were doing exercises, now see results.”
