Private Facilities Should Not Treat COVID-19 – NMA
By Emmanuel Aziken
The Nigerian Medical Association is opposed to private hospitals being used to treat COVID-19 cases, Dr. Japhet Olugbogi, chairman of the Lagos State NMA on COVID-19 has said.
Speaking on the TVC breakfast show, Your View, Dr. Olugbogi asked on his reaction to the decision of the Lagos State Government to license private hospitals to treat COVID-19, he said:
“I don’t know of Lagos State Government but what I know is that the NMA Lagos is opposed to the use of private hospitals because we believe that this can enhance the spread of the virus as they will collect a lot of money and that will cause the spread.
“What could be done is to expand the present Isolation Centres,” he said.
The issue of private hospitals treating COVID-19 recently became an issue after Federal Government officials said that they were not allowed but that was despite the treatment given to the deceased Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari at a private facility in Lagos.
