The Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA on Tuesday accused the Lagos State Government of speaking from the two sides of the mouth on the issue of treatment of COVID-19 by private hospitals.

While affirming that private hospitals should not treat COVID-19 patients, the NMA speaking through its Lagos State chairman, Dr. Saliu Oseni said it was unfortunate that the state authorities were sending conflicting messages on the issue.

He spoke against the background of the shutdown of some private hospitals alleged to have treated some patients of COVID-19 and the silence of the authorities to the treatment of the deceased Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.

“We will like to speak on the issue of the government speaking from the two sides of the mouth. We are yet to occupy the Onikan Centre and the other centres,” Dr. Oseni said in an interview on TVC.

He affirmed that the treatment of COVID-19 by private hospitals would not only endanger the doctors working there, but also lead to the spread of the pandemic in the community.
