Wael Jerro, a Lebanese who put a Nigerian lady for sale on Facebook has been apprehended by the authorities in Lebanon, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM), said on Thursday.

The chairman of the commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa had on Wednesday vowed to pursue the man and get him to justice for his action in advertising the 30 year old Nigerian for $1,000.

Jerro, had gone to a Facebook group ‘Buy and Sell in Lebanon (Original)’ to advertise a Nigerian woman as domestic worker, displaying the victim’s passport.

Domestic worker from Nigeria for sale with new legal documents. She’s 30 years old, she’s very active and very clean. Price: $1,000.

Jerro subsequently deleted the advert but not before snapshots of the advertisement had been made.

The post was written as Arabic, and interpreted in English as “Domestic worker from Nigeria for sale with new legal documents. She’s 30 years old, she’s very active and very clean. Price: $1,000.”

The snapshots of the advertisement generated outrage on the microblogging platform, Twitter, as Nigerians called for the rescue of the Nigerian woman in Lebanon.

NIDCOM announced the arrest of the Lebanese on its Twitter page on Thursday afternoon.

It said:

Jerro had made the advertisement below to sell the Nigerian lady in a Facebook group.
