Senator Uzamere’s Proverb Hits Oshiomhole’s Men
By Emmanuel Aziken
Senator Ehigie Uzamere is well known for lacing his words with Bini proverbs. His proverbs are sometimes difficult for the undiscerning to decipher.
However, when the senator went to his Facebook page on Monday morning to post that *ONLY A MAN WITH AN INSANE MIND, WILL THROW STONES IN A MARKET PLACE WHERE HIS CHILD IS TRADING* it was unarguably obvious to even the most laidback simpleton to decipher.
His comment followed the appointment of his son, Mr. Osaze Uzamere as the Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The appointment follows the unceremonious departure of the former office holder, Taiwo Akerele.
Against the background of the internecine political warfare between Governor Obaseki and his immediate predecessor, the appointment of an offspring of a political veteran like Senator Uzamere can be well appraised.
Undoubtedly, the appointee with experience in investment banking, and computer systems in the United States got the appointment on his own merit. He had until now been a special adviser to the governor.
However, the political advantage for the governor that the appointment brings can be well imagined.
Senator Uzamere was the first Bini man to win a second term in the Senate. And he did it in style winning from both the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
His political insight and leverage was also handy in leading the group of about 85 senators who formed the Nigeria Interest Group that worked out the Doctrine of Necessity that helped legitimized Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as acting president of the country in 2010.
Even before now, Senator Uzamere had championed a Bini political renaissance expressing consternation why non-Bini were at the beginning of the year championing the political course for the state that has a Bini majority.
“I am therefore at a loss over our lack of independence today in our own State where we’re in the majority,” he said on January 1, 2020.
Without mentioning words he apparently referred to the two dominant parties All Progressives Congress, APC and PDP where Comrade Oshiomhole and Chief Dan Orbih both from Etsako commanded affairs.
For many Bini, the rebellion of Obaseki from the grip of Oshiomhole is the kind of political renaissance that Senator Uzamere espoused at the beginning of the year. Perhaps in that light Senator Uzamere had in the last few years apparently been backing Governor Obaseki from the background. However, with the new appointment and the proverb he said on Monday, no one should expect him to play a role in fighting the governor.
If any, he is expected to make his contribution towards a conclusive victory for Obaseki in the election ahead.
Senator Uzamere may as well before his son catches up with him will now have to relocate his politics to the federal level and leave Edo State for Osaze to assert himself.
