What Ordinary Nigerians Think Of Buhari’s Speech

Nigerians have taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter, to react to the speech of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday evening.

Buhari, in his Nationwide broadcast, on Monday evening, extended the lockdown in Lagos and Ogun States, including the Federal Capital Territory by one week, however, there will be gradual easing of the lockdown in the aforementioned states.

The President also ordered a total lockdown of Kano state for two weeks with immediate effect, following the unusual deaths in the state in recent days.

The speech of the president drew reactions from many Twitter users, as the focus of discussion was on the gradual easing of the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and FCT from May 4, 2020.

Some section of Twitter users argued on the effectiveness of the curfew imposed on Lagos, Ogun and FCT from 8:00pm to 6:00am, noting that due to the human and vehicular movement in Lagos State, the curfew might not be effective.

@chidi_esq tweeted: “If you are in Lagos traffic and it’s past 6pm just come down from the car and start running home.”

@DrOlufunmilayo tweeted:”People will go to work till 6pm in Lagos.

They will be in traffic till 11pm. Some days some are even in traffic till midnight. Pls this is just a honest question: How would the 8pm Buhari curfew work in Lagos? How exactly? Are there going to be special buses? Or special routes?”

@Shawnifee tweeted: “The lockdown has been extended by President Buhari till 2nd May. From 4th of May, there’s a 8pm to 6am curfew.In Lagos, starting Monday you’ll basically spend the entire non-curfew hours in holdup. Call that traffic lockdown.”
