The Kaduna State Government, on Thursday, said the 16 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the state were Almajiri members deported to the state from Kano.
The State Ministry of Health noted that out of the 40 samples tests results released today, 16 of the positive results were members of the Almajiri sect.
The development brings the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 25, from the previous 9 cases.
The State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Amina Mohammed-Baloni, in a statement entitled “KDSG conflrms 16 new Covid-19 cases from Kano almajiris”, posted on the verified Twitter handle of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, noted the development affirmed the concerns of the state government on the issue of interstate travels.
Part of the statement reads,
“The Kaduna State Ministry of Health has confirmed the sad news that there are 16 new Covid19 cases in the state. These new cases are almajiris who came from Kano. Their test results returned positive from a sample of 40 persons whose test results were released today. These latest cases have raised the number of active Covid-l9 cases in Kaduna State from nine to 25.
“The high number of positive results from persons with travel history from outside the state confirm the Kaduna State Government’s fears about the danger of infection from neighbouring states and the role of interstate travel in facilitating the spread of Covid-19 across state lines.”
