The authorities in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT have lamented over the absconding of some COVID-19 positive patients in the territory.

Dr. Josephine Okechukwu, director of Public Health Services in the territory speaking on Thursday expressed fear that many of those who tested positive picked in Mabuchi area of the FCT had refused to follow up on their diagnosis.

“We have in Mabuchi and you see Mabuchi is not a slum but a squalor (place) and is very close to the city centre. We have some who have disappeared from the community and they cannot be identified,” she said in an interview on AIT.

Majority of them when you call them they are nowhere to be found and they have even switched off their phones and many of them are homeless,” she said.

“Majority of them when you call them they are nowhere to be found and they have even switched off their phones and many of them are homeless,” she said.

According to her the concern is that many of those who tested positive are homeless and cannot be traced to a fixed location.

“Many of them after counseling still believe that it is not their result. Some of them move out to other communities and can spread the disease and that is our worry.”

She said that as at Wednesday the FCT had tested 3,903 persons for the COVID-19 out of which 174 persons had tested positive.

Out of the 174 the FCT has discharged 36 patients from its treatment facilities and lost two persons.

“We have a robust system in place to identify cases, manage cases and treat them. Every resident in Abuja should have confidence in our ability to manage case. We have had only two mortalities. By Monday we are going to Kubwa and Bwari ,” she said.
