Genevieve Nnaji is a Nigerian actress, producer, and director who has won hearts by her delectable interpretation of roles on screen.

Born on 3rd May 1979, in Mbaise, Imo State, she, however, attended Methodist Girls College (Yaba, Lagos), before transferring to the University of Lagos, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in creative arts.

Genevieve’s role to stardom started when she was still in primary school when she featured in the popular NTA series, Ripples. It was perhaps that exposure that inspired her to read Theater Arts at the University of Lagos.

Mother and Daughter

Still burning for expression, she started auditioning for roles while she was still in the university.

She has received several awards and nominations for her work, including the Best Actress of the Year Award at the 2001 City People Awards won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actor to win the award.

In 2011, she was honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to Nollywood. Her directorial debut movie, Lionheart, is the first Netflix Original from Nigeria, and first Nigerian submission for the Oscars. The movie was disqualified for having most of the dialogue in English.

Unknown to some, Genevieve is a grandmother. Her daughter, Theodora Chimebuka Nnaji is married. She got married to Prince Osi Chigozie Ikediwa who is based in Texas, United States of America. Her traditional marriage took place in Mbaise, Imo State.

The marriage is blessed with a baby boy.
