Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has said that Kano is in trouble with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The governor who had earlier debunked claims that COVID-19 was responsible for the spate of death in the city speaking on Sunday said the trouble for the state arose from the turnaround time in sending out test samples and receiving the results.

He spoke on Sunday while receiving a mobile COVID-19 facility donated by Aliko Dangote according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar. The facility has the capacity of testing about 400 samples per day.

Quoting the governor, Anwar said:

“There is no doubt that Kano is in trouble. And there is no doubt that we started on a shaky foundation.

“When samples were taken to Abuja for 7 hours and came back again in 7 hours, that was the shaky foundation I am talking about.

“We then lodged our complaint to President Muhammadu Buhari, who ordered for the establishment of a Testing Centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, which after take-off was shut down for some days if not weeks.

“That was what escalated the transmission of the disease up to community transmission.”

The governor nevertheless affirmed that with the coming in of the mobile facility and the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital which has a capacity of 200 samples per day that the issues would be resolved.
