Edo APC: Oshiomhole Urged To Ensure Fair Primary
A political pressure group, the Edo APC Youths for Justice and Development (AYOJD), has warned against the imposition of any governorship candidate on the people.
The warning follows reports that two of the governorship aspirants aligned to the Oshiomhole tendency in the state walked out of the informal primaries arranged by the group to choose a consensus aspirant to challenge Gov. Godwin Obaseki.
The warning is contained in a statement jointly signed by the group’s Coordinator and Secretary, Alhaji Bagudu Momoh and Ephraim Erhunse, respectively in Benin on Wednesday.
The group said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo would win the coming governorship election if democratic norms and principles were allowed to prevail during the governorship primaries.
AYOJD said it had already written to the APC National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, on the need to ensure a level playfield for all aspirants.
“As a father and respected leader of our party, we urge you to be fair, just and sincere by listening to the wishes of the people that stand for truth and justice,’’ it said.
It urged party leaders in the state to consider antecedent of integrity, compassion, party loyalty and work experience in choosing the party’s candidate.
AYOJD stated that APC in Edo does not need a candidate with a baggage of corruption and questionable character.
It urged the party to ensure that “only a candidate with sound leadership quality and strong support base within the party is selected to fly its flag during the poll.’’
