The General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, aka Winners’ Chapel International, David Oyedepo has queried the rationale behind the closure of churches and the opening of markets, saying the voice of darkness are influencing people to implement policies against the growth of the church.

Oyedepo, in a homily during the Covenant Hour of Prayer Programme, entitled “Unveiling the Wonders of Being Committed to Fellowship”, on Wednesday noted that allowing markets to open for six hours and closing down the church is an “upside-down” way of doing.

The revered cleric repeatedly said, “I can smell a rat,” noting that there is an attempt by “voice of the darkness” to stop the growth of the church by influencing the execution of anti-church policy.

“Which one is more orderly? The market or the church?,” he said.

He further said, “God spoke to me so strong, yesterday, I can smell a rat behind all this act, how do we stop the church from exploding.”

“It is demons, people that are involved are not aware.

“I can smell a rat. The Lord spoke to me on it so strong yesterday. I can smell a rat. Behind all this, how do we stop the church from exploding? The people involved don’t know it.

“The voice of darkness is influencing people at various levels, targeting the church because the greatest headache of the power of darkness is the growth and expansion of the church, Worldwide.

“But the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. The devil and all his agents shall surely pay for this.

“I don’t know what hospital that records the kind of healings that the church of God records. And now hospitals, where people die every day, are open, but the church is closed because the oppression of the devil has no medical cure,” he said.

This is not the first time, a Nigeria pastor would question the rationale of the closing down of religious places.

GreenWhiteGreen had on Wednesday reported that the President of the LoveWorld Incorporated, aka Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome also lambasted church leaders who easily succumbed to the government’s submission.

The video of Oyedepo’s message trended on Wednesday and elicited mixed reactions from Twitter users.

Some Twitter users agreed with the cleric, arguing that the kind of waiver given to marketplaces can also be extended to churches, if there is no ulterior motive involved.

While some opined that people cannot survive without food, but can survive without going to the church building. They observed that people can still pray without being assembled in a physical church.
