Adams Oshiomhole has said that he is not in a position to celebrate if Godwin Obaseki should fail as governor of Edo State.

Speaking in an interview, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC affirmed that a number of governors were witnesses to his efforts to make Governor Obaseki work with everyone including the bad and good ones within the state chapter of the APC.

He also said that his differences with the governor were not on policy or projects but essentially on attitudes and what he claimed as the governor’s failure to work with everyone.

Oshiomhole spoke in an interview on Channels Television.

“My brother, Governor Obaseki knows that all I have adviced him and a number of governors can also testify to it, is that he should work with everyone, the good, the bad and the ugly. That’s all the advice and till today, that’s all I will advice him.

“If you work with everyone, you don’t have distractions.

Politics is like a forest, you can’t pick and choose, it is not like a golf course.

“Politics is like a forest, you can’t pick and choose, it is not like a golf course. I have many witnesses, I don’t like to be seen as having a running battle with him, I am never going to be governor again.”

Oshiomhole who is at the centre of alleged moves to spring a rival party man to replace Obaseki as the party’s candidate in the forthcoming governorship election was taciturn when asked if he was still supportive of Obaseki.

Asked if he still supported Obaseki, he said: “I wish him well.”

Pressed on the issue, the former governor said:

“If I invested what I invested, I have a responsibility to ensure that when he gets there that he succeeds. I can’t celebrate his failure if he fails which is why I felt compelled to offer that advice.

“And I am happy that he has been fair enough to say that there was nothing fundamental that it is not about me, it is not about policy choices, it is not about government project; it is just about this character and this character.

“Whoever they are, manage them and carry them along. Till tomorrow, that is the advice I will give to him and I will give to anyone.

“What I know is ever constant even on the day of election whether within our party or between our party and another party, is that we must make peace.”
