Nigeria recorded the highest number of mortalities on Sunday, May 10 as 15 persons died from the COVID-19 pandemic with 248 new cases being recorded in 17 states of the country and the FCT.

The 15 deaths brought the total number of deaths to 143 while the total number of cases across the country rose to 4,399.

778 persons have so far been discharged after successful treatment.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC in its daily report of developments on its twitter account shortly before midnight on Sunday said:

Meanwhile, the NCDC has dissuaded Nigerians from embarking on self-testing for COVID-19 saying that self-assessment test kits were unreliable as it insisted that it is continuing to ramp up testing.

The agency and the authorities have been largely criticized for not doing enough tests to determine the scale of spread of the disease across the country.

As at Sunday night only two states, Kogi and Cross River have not reported any incident of the disease in the country.
