The Akwa Ibom state government has banned further shipments of new consignment of goats, cows, and rams into the state until further notice.

The Secretary to State government, and Chairman of COVID-19 Management Committee in the state Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem made the announcement in Uyo, the state capital on Monday.

The SSG said, “I have been directed by HE the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to announce the immediate shutdown of all livestock markets in state for the rest of May 2020.

‘By this announcement, no new consignment of livestock – goats, cows and rams, will be allowed into the state until further notice.

“Livestock sellers are advised to sell off their stock and proceed to shut down.

“Security agencies have been directed to monitor and ensure full compliance.  Defaulters will be prosecuted.

GreenWhiteGreen gathered that the state government’s action may not be unconnected with the recent development in the country where Almajiris suspected to be COVID-19 positive were relocating in large numbers from some Northern States to Southern states.
